One of the towering masterpieces of The Basement Tapes is Bob Dylan's "Apple Suckling Tree". The best music that Dylan and The Band made together seems timeless, but firmly rooted in the blues, folk and gospel songs of the 's and 's. This is perhaps best illustrated by "Apple Sucking Tree"; indeed, many of The Band believed it to be a traditional song.
